The Scottish 1000m Championship was held at “The Peak” ice rink on Sunday 25th November 2012. Well done to all of our skaters who travelled to Stirling to take part in this event and especially our novice skaters who were skating at another rink for the first time. Since joining the senior British Squad in the summer, Flyers Kathryn Thomson has made rapid progress while still recovering from injury. At her first senior international for G.B. in Heerenveen Netherlands she placed 26th of 31 competitors. In the relay, skating with Elise Christie, Charlotte Gilmartin and Alex Stanley, Kat won her first senior gold medal beating Germany, Poland and Hungary in the final.
The first Star Class event of the season in Dresden, Germany with Kat skating in the Junior B category saw Kat take 2nd place with three pb’s:
500m – 46.318, 1000m – 1.38.807, 1500m – 2.36.600.
Big targets for Kat this season are to compete in the senior Europeans in January in Malmo, Sweden and to win the Junior Europa Final (Star Class) in Baselga di Pine, Italy in March.

Clyde, the Commonwealth Games 2014 Mascot
North Ayrshire Community Games was held at K:A Campus St Matthew’s, Saltcoats on Saturday 29th September. The Club had a stall at this event and I would like to thank Benny, Connor and Roy for giving up their time to help out. Clyde, the mascot for the Commonwealth Games 2014 paid a visit to this event and can be seen in the photo.
